A Taiwanese recipe made up by blending a tea base with the milk, fruit and fruit juices, adding up with signature bubbles i.e. tapioca balls also known as “pearls” or “boba” which sit at the bottom. Bubble Tea is delicious fruit or tea infusion that can be served hot or cold. It is called Bubble Tea because of the tapioca balls and the floating bubbles which form during the blending process which involves vigorous shaking. Tapioca balls sits at the bottom of the cup which can be chewed after consuming the tea. These balls have chewy consistency between jelly and chewing gum and can be of different flavor which are usually black and sometimes white or transparent.
Bubble Tea is served in a transparent cup to show off its texture and bubbly qualities. This can be made using the various varieties of fruit infusions and teas, fresh fruits, crushed ice and milk.
Origin
Bubble tea also known as Boba Tea was developed by Liu Han-Chieh and Lin Hsiu Hui in Taichung, Taiwan during 1980’s. They came up with Bubble Tea after noticing the Japanese method of adding milk to the coffee. Lin Hsiu Hui created the pearls by combining tapioca balls with sweetened pudding with iced tea and this new idea boosted the popularity of his teahouse. Since after this, Bubble Tea got popularity from Southeast and East Asian countries to mainly US and Canada.
